Xpeng launches new affordable coupe electric SUV with impressive 520 km of range

The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has unveiled a new electric coupe SUV, the LO3, in a global launch event in Munich. Unlike China, Xpeng has announced only two variants in Europe, namely, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions.
In contrast, Xpeng announced a total of 9 variants of the LO3 in China, starting from CNY 123,800 ($18,300). Speaking of Europe's price, the LO3 BEV variant starts at €35,600 (~$40,770). However, there’s no pricing information on the EREV variant at the time of writing. Xpeng LO3’s aggressive pricing approach undercuts some of its immediate rivals, such as the Tesla Model Y, the Skoda Elroq, and the Hyundai Ioniq, which are priced at €39,900, €37,390, and €41,900, respectively.
Xpeng has outfitted a 71.2 kWh LFP battery into the BEV (RWD) variant, which is said to offer up to 520 km (323 miles) of range on a single charge. On the other hand, the EREV variant is powered by a 37.2 kWh battery, which delivers a CLTC battery-only range of 315 km (195.3 miles) and a combined range of over 1,000 km (621.3 miles). The top speed of both variants is 180 km/h (111.8 mph), and they can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.
Xpeng has opted for 400 V architecture for LO3, and the company claims that this allows the electric SUV to charge from 20 to 80% in just 18 minutes and 10 to 80% in 20 minutes. In addition to technical innovation, Xpeng offers a premium interior for its latest entry-level electric SUV. The LO3 offers electrically adjustable leather seats with ventilation, heating, and 14-point full massage functions. You get a total of two displays inside the cabin, including a 15.6-inch central screen and a 26.8-inch wide head-up display.
Other features include a panoramic roof, Next-Generation Pilot NGP (VLA 2.0), ambient lighting, intelligent climate control, seven standard airbags, 13 driver assistance systems, and the XOPERA sound system. Like the G6, Xpeng offers a warranty of 160,000 km, or eight years, on the battery. Alongside China, the company will be planning to sell its compact electric SUV in 64 overseas markets. You can learn more about it via Xpeng’s official website.
