EV maker rolls out update to speed up charging at Tesla Superchargers
Chinese EV manufacturer Xpeng has begun rolling out a major over-the-air update for its EV lineup across 64 markets worldwide. In Europe, the update is available for four BEV model lines: the Xpeng G6, G9, P7+, and X9. The most noticeable change in the cockpit affects the EVs' digital voice assistant, which can now be addressed directly without first saying the usual "Hey Xpeng" wake phrase. The system recognizes natural follow-up conversations and automatically stops listening after 20 seconds of inactivity or when the user says "Goodbye." According to Xpeng, drivers can now also use voice commands to control features such as wireless smartphone charging, ventilation and climate control, child safety locks, and Xguard vehicle monitoring.
Xpeng has also improved smartphone integration and navigation with XOS 5.9.5. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now support a new split-screen mode, allowing smartphone navigation or music apps to run alongside native Xpeng applications. The Xdock bar remains permanently visible in the vehicle, providing quick access to climate and volume controls. The navigation system now also integrates Google search results directly, making it easier to find addresses and points of interest. Xpeng has also revised the interior audio settings and standardized the media player interface across its vehicles.
The XOS 5.9.5 software update is likely to be particularly useful for frequent drivers who rely on Tesla's fast-charging network. Xpeng says the vehicle update improves charging compatibility and performance specifically at Tesla V3 and V4 Superchargers. Enhanced thermal management for the high-voltage battery is also intended to speed up charging in cold temperatures and improve the accuracy of the remaining range estimate. The battery health information has also been refined. Xpeng has further corrected the energy consumption statistics, resolving previous discrepancies between the most recent trip and the data from the past 100 kilometers or 62 miles.
According to Xpeng, XOS 5.9.5 also includes functional changes to the Xpilot driver assistance systems and enhanced safety features. The adaptive cornering assistant now offers manual adjustment, while cruise control accelerates to the target speed more quickly after a lane change. A new feature at the rear adds convenience in everyday use: If a key is detected inside the vehicle when the trunk is closed, the liftgate automatically reopens and alerts the driver. A new "Quiet Remote Climate Mode" also enables much quieter cabin preconditioning through the Xpeng app, which may be particularly useful in quiet residential areas. In an emergency or serious accident, the system automatically places an emergency call. In the event of a battery emergency, it displays the locations of the manual door releases.
