Having (very) successfully broken into the electric sedan market in its native China, Xiaomi is reportedly coming to shake the country's e-SUV space up with the YU7 by July 2025.
As if to confirm this rumor, the OEM has reportedly certified an SKU of the car with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) with a single-motor system rated to yield up to 835 kilometers (km, or ~519 miles) of range.
It may or may not be a higher-end configuration of the YU7, sold alongside others reportedly capable of going for 820km (~510 miles) per charge.
This new EV is also now said to have an interior adorned with a steering wheel possessed of some physical controls and a central well with more switches skewed toward the driver's side.
Furthermore, the car is thought to benefit from a "Panoramic" heads-up display that might accommodate the time and date as well as the car's system and infotainment status - and there is talk of materials such as carbon fiber and Alcantara for some models. Its interior has allegedly been snapped in burgundy with beige accents; whether that finish changes based on the car's external appearance or not remains to be seen.
The putative YU7 as described above might never become available to consumers outside China. Even so, one could emulate some of its features with some Alcantara steering wheel grips from Amazon.
