Xiaomi SU7 Ultra breaks Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s Nürburgring record, crowned fastest four-door car
As per Xiaomi's latest tweet, the SU7 Ultra prototype has just set a new benchmark at the Nürburgring, becoming the fastest four-door car ever to complete a lap at the Nordschleife. On October 28, 2024, the vehicle clocked a lap time of 6 minutes, 46.874 seconds, breaking the previous record held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. This speaks volumes about Xiaomi’s push into the electric vehicle (EV) market, especially after the success of its initial SU7 launch.
The SU7 Ultra’s record attempt faced several delays due to poor weather conditions throughout the month, pushing the final run to October 28. Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive industry with the SU7 lineup, which includes Standard, Pro, and Max variants, was met with pretty solid reception. The company sold 20,000 units of the SU7 in October 2024 itself, as per reports.
Equipped with three electric motors delivering 1,548 horsepower, the SU7 Ultra is specifically designed for high performance, reaching 0 to 100 km/h in only 1.97 seconds and boasting a top speed of 350 km/h (~217.5 mph). The vehicle features advanced tech, including carbon-ceramic brakes and a sophisticated cooling system to handle high-speed demands on tracks like the Nürburgring.
While the SU7 Ultra we just talked about is currently a prototype, Xiaomi’s plans to bring a production version to market in early 2025 are already underway. The production model will maintain most of the features that made the prototype a record-breaker, though it may forego some of the more expensive materials to keep costs manageable, such as the carbon fiber body. At the time of writing, the SU7 Ultra has been officially unveiled in China, with a starting price of $114,000.
