Apple has introduced a new Mac mini, which follows on from Monday's release of an updated 24-inch iMac (curr. $1,299 on Amazon). In short, this new Mac mini represents the first major redesign since the launch of the unibody model in 2010.
Specifically, the latest model measures 127 x 127 x 50 mm, which places it between the current Apple TV 4K and the old Mac mini in terms of size. Nonetheless, the new Mac mini packs a whole host of improvements, whether that be the addition of front I/O or Apple M4 generation chipsets. Moreover, optioning an Apple M4 Pro chipset adds Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, which is a first for the entire Mac range.
On top of that, Apple now includes at least 16 GB of RAM, which can be configured up to 32 GB or 64 GB with M4 and M4 Pro chipsets, respectively. For reference, the Mac mini also comes with a 10-core version of the M4 rather than the 8-core and 9-core options that are available too. By contrast, the M4 Pro comes in two versions; please see our dedicated M4 Pro launch article for more details about Apple's new chipset.
The new Mac mini starts at $599 with an Apple M4 chipset, 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. By contrast, Apple M4 Pro-powered SKUs starts at $1,399, although this adds 24 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD as well. Incidentally, the Mac mini can be configured up to $4,699 with the 14-core variant of the M4 Pro, plus 64 GB of RAM, 8 TB of storage and a 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection.
