Upcoming MacBook Pro's M4 Max SoC confirmed via leaked media assets on official website
Apple has taken a staggered approach to launching new Macs, with each new model being launched each day. In the last two days, we have witnessed the liftoffs of the M4-equipped iMac as well as the freshly redesigned Mac Mini with the M4 and M4 Pro SoCs.
That leaves us with the MacBook Pro, which, if all goes well, should be unveiled tomorrow. Mark Gurman has been pretty accurate so far with his Mac-related claims, so it is fair to expect the M4 Pro and M4 Max-equipped MacBook Pro 14 and 16 to be on the way as well.
The M4 Pro has already been made official by Apple. Thankfully, we might have also just received confirmation of the M4 Max SoC, according to a media asset for the M4 Max spotted by developer Charlie Joseph. This should not come as a surprise, considering it is almost certain that the MacBook Pro will ship with both Pro and Max flavors of the M4, staying true to tradition.
Unfortunately, however, there were no details regarding the core counts for the M4 Max. The M4 Pro took me by surprise, packing 14-cores with a whopping 10 performance cores up from the maximum of six that its predecessor, the M3 rocked. The M4 Max will likely boast an even higher number of performance cores, likely around 12 or even 14 with two or four efficiency cores for a total of 16 or 18 CPU cores, if history is anything go by.
GPU cores, on the other hand, are likely less of a mystery. The standard M4 sports up to 10 GPU cores, and the M4 Pro doubles it to 20, so the M4 Max will likely rock up to 40 GPU cores, the same as its predecessor. Considering that the M4 Pro and M4 Max-equipped MacBook Pro lineup will arrive as soon as tomorrow, we won't have much waiting to do.
