Apple M4 Pro official with Thunderbolt 5.0 support, up to a 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU
Apple has slyly unveiled a new chip alongside the 2024 Mac Mini. As predicted by Mark Gurman, the Mac Mini is offered in Apple M4 and Apple M4 Pro flavours. We don't have much much information to go by other than some text on Apple's Mac Mini webpage.
The Apple M4 Pro is offered in two flavours: one with a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU and the other with a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU. The former features 8 P-cores and 4 E-cores. The latter features 10 P-cores and 4 E-cores.
Other notable improvements bought forth by the Apple M4 include support for up to 64 GB unified memory vs 32 GB on the regular M4. Additionally, the total memory bandwidth is more than doubled to 273 GB/s from 120 GB/s.
Additionally, the Apple M4 Pro's GPU can power up to three 6K displays at 60 Hz or one 6K panel combined with a 8K 60/4K 240 Hz panel. Plus, it is one of the first Apple chip to support the recently announced Thunderbolt 5.0 standard.
Key details of the Apple M4 Pro, such as CPU base/boost clocks are missing, but it shouldn't long before they surface via listings on benchmarking platforms like Geekbench.
