Apple M4 Pro makes Geekbench debut with fantastic performance uplift over Apple M3 Pro
The newly unveiled Apple M4 Pro has just made its Geekbench debut alongside what appears to be a 16-inch MacBook Pro. This particular variant is the specced-out model with a 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU and 48 GB RAM. It delivers an exceptional generation-over-generation uplift over the M3 Pro in both CPU and GPU performance.
It scores 3,925 and 22,669 points in Geekbench's single and multi-core tests, respectively. That represents a 25% single-core and 46% multi-core performance bump compared to the Apple M3 Pro (3,138/15,480). Of course, the increase in multi-core performance was expected given the extra CPU cores, but the single-core bump is nothing short of phenomenal, likely due to the Apple M4 Pro boosting up to 4.51 GHz versus 4.06 GHz on the M3 Pro.In fact, the Apple M4 Pro's multi-core performance is even higher than the 16-core M3 Max from last year, which scored 21,253 points in the benchmark.
We also get to see the Apple M4 Pro's 20-core GPU in action thanks to Geekbench's OpenCL benchmark. Here, it scores 69,867 points, representing a 38% performance increase over the Apple M3 Pro (50,373). While it doesn't catch up with the M3 Max's colossal 40-core GPU (91,413) here, it is a mere 31% slower with half the cores, which is mighty impressive. With the M4 Pro coming in this hot, it'll be interesting to see what Apple's most powerful M4 Max has in store for MacBook users.
