Since the iPhone 13 series, a 120 Hz screen has been an exclusive feature for the Pro models. The same applies to the new iPhone 16 series. However, the upcoming lineup might be different in this regard, as the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are once again tipped to feature high refresh rate displays.
Citing an unnamed industry source, ET News reports that all the iPhone 17 models are expected to feature LTPO screens. This doesn't just mean that the non-Pro phones will get 120 Hz refresh rate support but also the ability to dial the refresh rate extremely low when needed.
This granular control over the refresh rate can help extend battery life, and it's something that's already present in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Again, this isn't the first time all the iPhone 17 models are reported to feature LTPO screens. A previous report from Ross Young has hinted the same, and another Korean outlet, The Elec, claimed the same.
If this stands true, there would be one less differentiating factor between the non-Pro and Pro iPhone 17 models. However, Apple is rumored to make the Pro Max variant a little more attractive for those who need more. As reported by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in August of this year, 12 GB RAM would be exclusive to the top-end model.
That would make the iPhone 17 Pro Max more capable than the others for on-device AI features, something that Apple is expected to make a big push on with Apple Intelligence. But again, all of these are just rumors, and you should take them with a fair amount of salt.
