Apple's manufacturing process for its high-end mobile devices goes through a number of stages, the first of which involves turning its latest working prototypes into handsets that can be assembled at scale. Known as New Production Introduction, it is an important part of the iPhone life-cycle - internally, at least.
New Production Introduction most often takes place in China - however, the Cupertino giant reportedly has other plans for the manufacture of the successors to the current 16-series line-up.
The electronics behemoth apparently wants to start the stage at plants in India instead, an alternative center of manufacturing in which iPhones are already put together at different stages of the process. Accordingly, it seems Apple wants to diversify its production capacity as well as its supply of components.
Should that be the case, the changes might be introduced gradually as of 2025. New Production Introduction will be completed in India for the base-model iPhone 17, and not its rumored Air, Pro and Pro Max siblings.
