Update | Leak reveals iPhone 17 will get a 120Hz LTPO screen
September 22 update: The source has clarified that the iPhone 17 Pro models will not be getting under display Face ID. The original article follows below.
The iPhone 16 series is now available to purchase and while they bring a handful of interesting new features, next year's iPhone 17 series should be more exciting with reports of key upgrades and features, some of which are long overdue.
Earlier reports have revealed that Apple will be making key changes to its iPhone lineup for 2025. Alongside the base iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple will be ditching the Plus model for a new one that is reportedly called the iPhone 17 Slim.

In addition to a new model, Apple will be adding some much needed upgrades and features according to Ross Young, the founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants. First is that the base iPhone 17 will be getting a display upgrade by ditching the 60Hz panel for a 120Hz LTPO panel. It goes without saying that the iPhone 17 Slim will also have a similar display.
With all of the iPhone models now sporting similar display technologies, Apple will distinguish the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max from the non-pro models by giving the pro models under-display Face ID. The switch to under-display Face ID may mean a smaller cut in the display of the iPhone 17 Pro models, further distinguishing them from the non-pro models which should retain the large pill-shaped cutout.
There's still a long wait before the iPhone 17 series arrives but these details sure are exciting and may be enough for those who are yet to upgrade their current iPhones.
