While Apple introduced a notch display with MacBook Pro 2021, none of the models so far featured Face ID like iPhones. But that can possibly change, as the official Store app now shows an illustration of a Mac with a Face ID icon on the display.

Apple introduced a notched display with the MacBook Pro 2021, but unlike the iPhones, none of the Macs so far featured Face ID. However, it seems that's about to change as the company's official Store app now shows an illustration of a Mac with a Face ID icon on the display.

Of course, this isn't anything out of the blue, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a reliable source about Apple stuff, previously reported that Apple was testing Face ID for Mac. As for why the company hasn't yet implemented it, a marketing employee of the company shed some light on it in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

In the interview, the employee said that the Touch ID is thought to be more convenient for a MacBook. After all, the button is near your hands when you're turning the laptop on. However, the interview didn't give any clear hints of Apple ruling out the possibility of adding Face ID.

Worth noting that this Face ID illustration on a MacBook doesn't mean Apple will be implementing it anytime soon. As Gurman notes, it's possible that the graphic designer had advanced knowledge about an upcoming MacBook Pro with the feature. However, it's also possible that the illustration is just an oversight.

The same graphic can also be found on Apple's website, and it doesn't have the Face ID icon on the MacBook. This further reinforces the fact that the illustration on the Store app could simply be an error. Regardless, Apple is expected to reveal new MacBooks with the M4 series of chipsets this October (256 GB M4 iPad Pro curr. $1,189.99 on Amazon). So, you don't need to wait long to see whether these new laptops will feature Face ID.
