FriendlyELEC releases new mini single-board computer with sub-50 mm board size
Not too long has passed since FriendlyELEC released the NanoPi R3S (curr. $39 on Amazon). Nonetheless, it has now decided to release another single-board computer (SBC) under its NanoPi series. This time, it is offering the NanoPi Zero2, which serves as the successor to the ZeroPi with the following specifications, in part thanks to its Rockchip RK3528A chipset:
- CPU: 4x ARM Cortex-A53 (2 GHz)
- GPU: ARM Mali-450
- VPU: 4K H264/H265 60 FPS decoding
- RAM: 1 GB or 2 GB LPDDR4/LPDDR4X
- Expansion: 30-pin FPC-GPIO connector
- Storage: MicroSD card slot, eMMC socket
Nonetheless, the NanoPi Zero2 measures 49.5 x 49.5 x 25 mm. As CNX Software notes, these dimensions make it one of the smallest ARM-based Linux SBCs around. Moreover, FriendlyELEC has included a Gigabit Ethernet port, an M.2 Key-E 2230 module for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, plus a pair of USB 2.0 ports of Type-A and Type-C standards.
The NanoPi Zero2 has plenty of operating systems at its disposal, including Debian 12 Core, FriendlyWrt (OpenWrt 21.05/23.05) and Ubuntu 24.04. Please see FriendlyELEC's wiki for more details in this regard. Currently, the NanoPi Zero2 starts at $18 with 1 GB of RAM. However, the SBC is also available with 2 GB of RAM for $21 and with an aluminium case for an additional $7.
