Shenzhen Xunlong Software has now released the Orange Pi 5 Max globally. Starting at $75, the Orange Pi 5 Max offers a 40-pin GPIO header, LPDDR5 RAM, an M.2 2280 slot that supports PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, among other features.

Yet another Orange Pi device has landed, shortly after the company released the Orange Pi CM5. This time, Shenzhen Xunlong Software has released the Orange Pi 5 Max through retailers like AliExpress and Amazon. Going off its name, the Orange Pi 5 Max should be the most powerful model in the Orange Pi 5 range.

It seems that the new 'Max' variant is actually a scaled-down Orange Pi 5 Plus though, which is now over a year old. Specifically, Shenzhen Xunlong Software equips the Orange Pi 5 Max with a Rockchip RK3588 chipset, plus 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and various storage options like an M.2 2280 (PCIe 3.0 x4) slot and eMMC socket. Moreover, the single-board computer (SBC) integrates a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports that support up to 8K/60 Hz, a 40-pin GPIO header and a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connection on a 96 x 57 mm board.

However, the Orange Pi 5 Max lacks the HDMI input and second Ethernet connection found in the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Conversely, Shenzhen Xunlong Software has included Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E capable modem and faster LPDDR5 RAM than the Orange Pi 5 Plus. For reference, the new SBC supports OSes like Android 13, Debian 11/12 and various versions of Orange Pi OS, among others. Currently, the Orange Pi 5 Max starts at $75 with 4 GB of RAM but costs at least $112.99 on Amazon for its 8 GB of RAM SKU; please see Orange Pi's website for more hardware details.
