Apple Intelligence in action: First image generated with Image Playground shared by Apple
Apple Intelligence has likely emerged by far as the most hyped AI product this year so far. Despite the Cupertino goliath's habitual tardiness towards embracing new technologies, it somehow managed to arrive at just the right time, making waves in the consumer AI industry.
Among the many intriguing elements of Apple Intelligence, its 'Image Playground' feature, which creates cartoon-like images based on user prompts, is particularly exciting. Although we have witnessed several demos of this tool as well as several others at WWDC, Apple recently shared what can be considered the first 'real-world' example of the Image Playground tool's abilities.
The image was generated by Apple's SVP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, for his wife in memory of their dog, Bailey's recent birthday, before it was shared with WIRED. Bailey can be seen seated behind a lovely birthday cake with glowing candles, wearing a party hat while looking cute as a button.

Clearly, Apple intended Image Playground to be a fun feature instead of an actual life-like image generation tool such as OpenAI's DALL-E, most likely for privacy concerns. This feature is not available in any of the latest developer betas, making Bailey's image the only real-world instance of Apple Intelligence's image generation prowess in action.
Needless to say, Apple Intelligence, when launched, will arrive with a whole bunch of AI-powered features and tools, including but not limited to summarising content, emails, and messages, usage-based suggestions, contextual replies, a nifty content rephrasing engine that can even adapt for different writing styles, an overhauled Siri, a custom emoji generation tool dubbed Genmoji, and, of course, Image Playground.
