Imagen 3 AI image generator becomes available to all Google Gemini users
Google Imagen 3 was first introduced at the Google I/O event earlier this year, and it was later made available in the US through Google's AI Test Kitchen. Now, all Gemini users worldwide can access the upgraded text-to-image model. This AI image generator uses generative AI to create images from text prompts, similar to Midjourney and Open AI's Dall-E.
During its launch, Google said that Imagen 3 can produce images with "crisp detail" and "vibrant color." This free AI image creator is also said to offer more photorealistic details and create fewer artifacts than its predecessor. On the note of photorealism, the company says that the new text-to-image model can better represent the real world in the images it creates.
The lighting effects and depictions of humans are also said to be better on Imagen 3. While all these improvements, combined with the lower artifacts, could make it hard to determine whether AI created the images, Google is reportedly working on a countermeasure for this. A recent APK teardown of the Google Photos app revealed that it will soon get an AI image detection feature.
Meta has also started to flag AI-generated images on Facebook and Instagram. These countermeasures will hopefully lower the chances of people being misled by these photorealistic AI images.
