Google might be working on an AI agent that controls web browsers
According to a report from The Information, Google is working on an AI agent that can take control of web browsers to automate mundane tasks such as filling out forms or booking flight tickets.
The agent (codenamed Project Jarvis) will be rolled out with the next-generation Gemini AI model that could launch in December this year. Jarvis is an acronym for "Just Another Very Intelligent System", a fictional AI assistant that plays a role in the Marvel universe as Tony Stark's assistant.
Google will limit the agent's control to web browsers such as Chrome, and it can help users complete tasks such as booking movie tickets or purchasing items from a website. Users can directly interface with the agent and command it to do tasks.
If all this seems familiar, it is similar to Anthropic's recent Claude 3.5 Sonnet release that allows app developers to "direct Claude to use computers the way people do". OpenAI is also reportedly working on similar technology.
