Verdict on the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4: Superb, but with one major drawback
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is currently one of the slimmest and lightest foldables on the market, regardless of whether the smartphone is used unfolded or folded. The Mix Flip's larger sibling is noticeably slimmer than its predecessor. In our review, the Mix Fold 4 proves to be of first-class workmanship and the rounded metal frame also makes it very comfortable to hold.
The biggest disadvantage of the Mix Fold 4 is its lack of global availability. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has no plans to bring the Fold 4 to the international market, unlike the small Mix Flip. Those who really want to get their hands on the Leica-Quad-camera-equipped foldable can import it from China for at least $1,353 in the smallest memory/storage configuration (12GB/256GB). As usual with Chinese versions of Xiaomi phones, our test device does not support Google services or the PlayStore ex works, and English is the only alternative system language available.
Xiaomi is also holds back on software updates and it is doubtful whether the Mix Fold 4, which is only available in China, will be as long lasting as the current Xiaomi 14 generation (in regard to updates). Here, it is safe to assume that Xiaomi will not be on the level of Google or Samsung.
Otherwise, the incredibly thin design of the Mix Fold 4 impresses in our review. Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Xiaomi smartphone looks like the next generation of foldable phones in terms of weight and case thickness. Xiaomi has equipped its 7.98-inch smartphone with a powerful Leica camera module and strong features. The very long runtimes in tandem with the fast charging functions and the matching power adapter are another big plus point of the Mix Fold 4.
