Xiaomi's upcoming book-style foldable could beat the Galaxy Z Fold8 to launch

After releasing its fourth-gen foldable smartphone, the Mix Fold 4, back in 2024, Xiaomi eschewed the release of a direct successor in 2025, choosing instead to only launch the Mix Flip 2. According to a new report, the company is poised to pick up where it stopped shortly.
As shared by Chinese leaker Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi is already working on a new book-style foldable. This device, a theoretical Mix Fold 5, will be a successor to the Mix Fold 4 and, as such, directly rival foldables like the Oppo Find N6, Honor Magic V6, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. It's said, however, that Xiaomi is yet to decide on branding for the device—there's a chance it doesn't arrive as the Mix Fold 5. That's consistent with prior reports on that matter, with "Xiaomi 17 Fold" previously mooted.
Reportedly, Xiaomi will mostly build this device out of locally-made or in-house developed components, with parts like the foldable's hinge mechanism and camera lenses being specified. Finally, the source claims the foldable is tentatively scheduled to debut around July, indicating it could beat the Galaxy Z Fold8 to launch.
