More details of Xiaomi's iPhone Ultra rival outed in new leak

After choosing not to offer a full-size foldable phone in its lineup last year, Xiaomi is set to return with a new device in that form factor this year. This device, expected to arrive under the Mix series—potentially as the Mix Fold 5—will rival offerings from Apple and Samsung, and more information on it has now leaked.

As shared by leaker Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi's upcoming foldable will likely offer a "brand-new body design". By all indications, Apple's iPhone Ultra will adopt a passport-style form factor rather than the book-style proportions of Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series and devices like the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4. Reportedly, Xiaomi's new foldable will toe an identical line, and has been tipped to use the same hinge mechanism as Apple's offering.

This foldable device has, again, been touted to eschew Qualcomm's flagship chipsets in favor of an in-house SoC. Xiaomi's first attempt at a premium chipset, XRing O1, is widely regarded to have been a success, and a direct successor—expected to be branded as "XRing O3"—is expected to debut later in the year and will likely power this foldable.

Lastly, the Mix Fold 5, or however it's branded, is said to feature a battery in the region of 6,000 mAh. It's expected to also offer "magnetic accessories", much like on recent Xiaomi flagships, including the Xiaomi 17 (buy on Amazon US).

It's unclear when Xiaomi plans to present this device officially, but word on the grapevine indicates an August release could be on the cards. As with all of the above information, however, that is best taken with a grain of salt.
