Leak: Apple iPhone Ultra to feature smaller battery than expected

The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to feature a 5,235 mAh battery in Europe, and even a 5,425 mAh battery in the U.S., where the smartphone is said to lack a SIM card slot. Earlier rumors had suggested that the Apple iPhone Ultra would feature an even larger battery. The usually highly reliable leaker Digital Chat Station has now identified two batteries at Apple’s suppliers that suggest a smaller capacity than previously expected.
This is because Apple’s supply chain appears to be preparing a battery with a capacity of 1,921 mAh as well as a battery with 2,962 mAh. As is customary in this device class, the Apple iPhone Ultra features batteries of different sizes in each half of the foldable smartphone, which together total a capacity of 4,883 mAh. While this makes the battery significantly smaller than the 5,800 mAh previously expected, the capacity is still decent for a relatively compact foldable.
After all, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 ($1,105 on Amazon) has only a 4,400 mAh battery battery despite its larger body. Some foldable flagship smartphones from Chinese manufacturers offer significantly larger batteries, such as the Honor Magic V5, which has a 6,100 mAh battery. After the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max in our in-depth review achieved a first-class battery life of over 28 hours while web browsing despite a relatively small 4,823 mAh battery, a small battery in the iPhone Ultra doesn’t necessarily mean that the smartphone will have a shorter battery life than the competition.
