Compromises for bigger battery: Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max weight and thickness could disappoint some fans

It seems pretty clear by now that the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max will bring larger batteries than the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, respectively. Combined with a new camera system that could also add heft to the devices, it is looking likely that the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will be chunky.
Leaker Ice Universe has now revealed what could be the final weight and thickness of the iPhone 18 Pro Max on X. Ice Universe asks its followers on X whether they would accept the iPhone 18 Pro Max being close to 9 mm thick and coming in at 240 g in exchange for packing a bigger 5,500 mAh battery. While this is posed as a question by the leaker, the figures are interesting when we consider the recent leaks of Apple using a 5,500 mAh battery.
On the surface, the iPhone 18 Pro Max weighing 240 g is not a big deal, as it is just 7 g more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max (available "Renewed" on Amazon). However, for a device that is meant to be pocketable, each gram of weight counts. So, the 7g difference that doesn’t feel like much on paper might end up producing a noticeable difference in the real world, especially when combined with the added thickness of close to 9 mm.
Curiously, a recent leak stated that the smaller iPhone 18 Pro could measure between 9.9 mm and 10.9 mm thick. Assuming the iPhone 18 Pro Max comes in around 9 mm, it will make the iPhone 18 Pro Max noticeably thinner than its smaller sibling.
Whatever the case ends up being, we believe most users would be happy to sacrifice a bit of weight and slimness in exchange for longer battery life. We know what happens to the endurance of an iPhone when Apple decides to chase thinness.
