Sony RX10 V compact camera launches with 1-inch sensor and 600 mm zoom

The Sony RX10 IV from 2017 is finally getting a successor. The Sony RX10 V not only features a modernized design but also numerous hardware upgrades. However, the key specifications remain unchanged. As before, Sony has equipped the camera with a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch CMOS sensor and a zoom lens that offers a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24 – 600 mm and an aperture range of f/2.4 – 4.0.
Thanks to a new BIONZ XR processor, the Sony RX10 V promises significantly improved autofocus and the ability to record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, instead of just 30 fps. With the Sony NP-FZ100 battery, which has a capacity of 16.4 Wh, the camera achieves a significantly longer battery life of 630 photos on a single charge (CIPA standard). Sony has also upgraded the display and the electronic viewfinder.
The flip-out 3-inch LCD now has a resolution of 1.62 million pixels, while the larger 0.5-inch OLED viewfinder boasts a resolution of 3.68 million pixels. Sony has modernized the controls, the Wi-Fi module for connecting to the smartphone app, and added a USB-C port. A 72-millimeter thread allows standard filters to be screwed onto the zoom lens. With its enormous zoom range and enhanced video features, the Sony RX10 V is designed to be a true all-rounder. However, the camera is not only relatively large and heavy but also more expensive than its predecessor.
Pricing and availability
The Sony RX10 V is available now for a suggested retail price of $2,300 in the U.S., £2,200 in the UK or €2,500 in the EU.
