Honor Magic V Wide: Yet another foldable jumps on the iPhone Ultra bandwagon with a huge battery

A well-known YouTuber recently referred to the Vivo X Fold 6 as one of the last foldables in the tall book format. That might be a bit of an exaggeration. After all, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will arrive soon plus there will likely continue to be a market for this classic foldable form factor. Nevertheless, the first Apple foldable in September appears to mark a fresh start for many foldable manufacturers and it will bring a bunch of competition for Apple.
Everyone is betting on the iPhone Ultra form factor
As most of you already know, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is switching from an elongated chassis to a more compact 16:9 format, which promises a 4:3 display when unfolded. Only time will tell whether customers will appreciate this change, but at least for now, China’s smartphone manufacturers also seem to be jumping on the iPhone Fold bandwagon. In addition to Huawei, who actually premiered this format with the Pura X Max and Xiaomi, with the soon expected Mix Fold 5, it appears that Honor will be adopting this foldable phone design as well.
Honor Magic V7 or Honor Magic V Wide?
In a recent Weibo post , usually very reliable leaker Digital Chat Station revealed some key details about this new Honor foldable, which we’re tentatively calling the “Honor Magic V Wide”. It remains to be seen what it will actually be called, but the specs indicate that we likely won’t see it until 2027—so it could simply launch as the Honor Magic V7 after the recent global availability of the Honor Magic V6. Equipped with a 2nm chip, it’s likely to be based on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and feature a roughly 7.6-inch flex display as well as a 5.5-inch cover display.
New camera design and huge battery
According to the leaker, the camera design is shifting from the usual octagon layout to a horizontal camera bar, which will accommodate a 200-megapixel main camera with a large sensor as well as a periscope telephoto. Despite the smaller form factor, it apparently features a larger battery than the Honor Magic V6. With well over 7,000 mAh, the potential “Honor Magic V Wide” is expected to become the iPhone Ultra competitor with the largest battery on the market in 2027. Comments suggest a starting price of 10,000 yuan (1,300 euros, US$1,480) as a target, which is about 1,000 yuan more than the Honor Magic V6’s launch price in China.
