Vivo X500 Pro Max vs. Vivo X500: The next-gen Zeiss cameras are taking shape

Four Vivo X500 models have appeared in the IMEI database so far, making the (global) launch of the Vivo X500, X500e, X500 Pro, and Vivo X500 Pro Max highly likely. While the more compact Vivo X500 Pro presumably features a 6.37-inch display and two new Sony sensors, the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station recently commented on the camera specs of the standard Vivo X500 and the Vivo X500 Pro Max.
The former is expected to feature a 6.59-inch display and is therefore described by the leaker as “medium-sized,” while the latter is seen as the direct successor to the Vivo X300 Pro and is likely to once again feature a 6.85-inch display. Based on current test units, Digital Chat Station expects the Vivo X500 Pro Max to bring a 50-megapixel 1/1.28-inch Sony sensor, which—thanks to LOFIC—is said to deliver significantly more dynamic range. Sony recently unveiled the Lytia L910, which will likely be used here for the first time.
Same principle as in the Vivo X300 Pro
Aside from the LOFIC aspect, however, very little seems to have changed from the proven design of the latest Zeiss triple-camera systems. The leaker does mention improved image stabilization, which the Vivo X500 Pro presumably inherits from the Vivo X300 Ultra, that meets CIPA 7.0 criteria for the first time in a mobile phone. However, apart from an updated lens group there appear to be no changes to the 200-megapixel 1/1.4-inch 85mm telephoto or the comparatively small 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle. High-quality telemacro shots are said to be supported.

It’s interesting that Vivo sems to be moving away from the 200-megapixel sensor in the main camera of the Vivo X300, instead, the Vivo X500 is expected to use a 1/1.28-inch 50-megapixel Sony sensor, though apparently without LOFIC technology. In addition to the 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, there is likely to be a 1/2-inch 64-megapixel Sony sensor for the 70mm periscope telephoto, similar to the Vivo X500 Pro. That is potentially the recently unveiled Sony LYT-610, which promises significant quality improvements. It remains to be seen whether this 70mm telephoto will also support telephoto macro shots.
