Bigger battery, no compromises and cheaper than in the EU: Importing the global Vivo X500 Pro Max

In a few days, the latest Zeiss camera flagship will be officially available for many regions outside China but it could be rather expensive. A leaker now reveals that the global European model's battery capacity will once again be reduced, but there seems to also be a global Vivo X500 Pro Max option without this compromise and it should be even cheaper.

It is often the small details that raise eyebrows. In the case of the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max, a leak suggested that quite a few specifications will apparently change in the expensive global/EU model compared with the (cheaper) Chinese version. Fans of Chinese flagship smartphones have already become accustomed to smaller batteries. This practice of reducing battery capacities for the EU (and the US), may largely be due to government transport regulations, but it is still not a satisfactory solution for customers.

European Vivo X500 Pro Max with a smaller battery

The Vivo X500 Pro Max is also likely to have a smaller battery in the EU than in the Chinese version, as leaker Sudhanshu Ambhore now suggests on X. According to his research, the Vivo X500 Pro Max will have a 6,750 mAh battery in Europe, compared with 8,000 mAh in the Chinese model. Given that the latest leak suggests we will be paying a recommended retail price of €1,799 (US$2,021) for the Zeiss camera flagship, such a downgrade would be particularly frustrating.

Workaround: A global model from Hong Kong?

However, there could be a workaround for those who would prefer a global version of the Vivo X500 Pro Max including eSIM and Wear OS support over the cheapest option (importing from China), but do not want to give up the larger battery, as Wondamobile now reveals. The Hong Kong-based retailer already lists the local global model on its website, which apparently has a 7,800 mAh battery according to the listed specifications. This matches the Chinese model's "rated battery capacity", so it appears to be the same battery or one with only a minimally reduced capacity. We do not yet have access to an official Vivo specification sheet from Hong Kong, so we cannot verify these details at this stage.

If these specifications are confirmed, however, this would be a very interesting alternative to the EU model, especially since, at €1,604 (US$ 1,789) for the same 12/512 GB version offered in Europe, it is also cheaper, although not substantially once the €120 launch discount in Europe is factored in. Another advantage is that the orange version, which is not available in the EU, will also be available here. AverageDad and Trinity Electronics also offer the global model, with the latter even charging slightly less, although taxes are apparently not included here. The only substantial downside to importing the global model would be more limited warranty coverage compared with buying it in the EU. There is no need to rush your order, by the way: you can comfortably wait for the EU launch, as the Hong Kong models will not start shipping until late October either. A small note for US customers: According to Wondamobiles data sheet, even the global model seems to miss a few network bands used in the USA, like LTE-bands 12 and 13 or 71 and n71 to name a few.
