Vivo X500 series: Official launch date, foldable-like multitasking and much more
Vivo has already revealed a great deal about its new generation of Zeiss camera flagships over the past few weeks, and it has now finally been confirmed when the Vivo X500 series will launch in the Chinese market. Pricing and availability will be announced on September 21, and orders can usually be placed from that point onwards as well. The X500 series, which brings three models in total, is expected to arrive in Europe and other international markets in the form of the Vivo X500 and Vivo X500 Pro Max. However, the timing for the global launch has not yet been revealed, we expect international availability in the coming weeks.
Summary of the key new camera features
Alongside the launch date, Vivo product manager Han Boxiao summarized the key new features of this year's Zeiss cameras. While the more affordable X500 model inherits many of the Pro camera features of the Vivo X300 Pro, the Vivo X500 Pro Max's new main camera in particular receives a substantial upgrade. The Sony Lytia L910 sensor, which is based on LOFIC technology, is said to offer 17 stops of dynamic range and, for the first time, 4K240 slow motion or 4K120 in DCG HDR. Stabilization reaches the CIPA 7 level on the Pro Max model, as does the 200-megapixel telephoto camera, which is effectively carried over from the Vivo X300 Ultra.
More video color styles than on the X300 Ultra
Speaking of the Vivo X300 Ultra, its video features received particular attention, and the Vivo X500 Pro Max will build on them in the future. Vivo fans had access to many different color styles for photos for years, and the video department is now also gaining a wider range of stylistic options. The demo video below shows the color adjustments that will be possible on the Vivo X500 series.
OriginOS 7: glass look and much better multitasking
The Vivo X500 series will not only bring an update to Android 17; OriginOS 7 is also getting a new look and many new features. Whether or not you appreciate the glass look, which was likely inspired by Apple's current iOS versions, the Atomic Workbench introduced with the Vivo X Fold 6 should prove genuinely useful. It allows multiple apps to remain permanently visible either at the side or at the top of the display, which should greatly improve multitasking. This naturally makes considerably more sense on a foldable than on a comparatively small phone display, but it could nevertheless be practical in everyday use if you frequently switch back and forth between several active apps.
