Mewgenics hits PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2

Mewgenics, the cat-breeding tactical roguelike from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 8. Nicalis is handling the console release, seven months after the game debuted on Steam to a Metacritic score of 88 and sold over a million copies in its first week.
Tactical grid combat and genetic breeding systems
Each run starts in Boon County, where players assemble a squad from their growing house of cats and fit them with class specific collars: Fighter, Tank, Mage, and several others. Squads fight through turn-based battles that reward careful positioning over brute force, with more than 1,000 unique abilities spread across ten-plus classes and 900-plus items to draw from. No two runs play quite the same.
The genetics side is where the game earns its name. Cats that survive an expedition come home carrying scars, quirks, and sometimes stranger mutations, all of which can be bred into the next generation. Players decorate rooms to influence a cat's comfort and health, manage outbreaks of disease, and decide which bloodlines are worth carrying forward. Permadeath means a cat lost in the field stays lost, so a player's odds in the campaign's tougher late fights hinge on how well they've planned their breeding back at home.
Console availability and physical editions
Nicalis says the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 versions carry the same content as the PC release, down to every class, item, and update shipped since February, alongside full controller support on all three platforms. Beyond that, the publisher hasn't detailed any console-specific interface changes.
Mewgenics is available now as a digital download on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop for $39.99. Nicalis previously confirmed physical editions for PS5 and Switch 2, priced at $49.99, but those won't arrive until the first quarter of 2027. No physical release has been announced for Xbox.
