Persona 5: The Phantom X welcomes Version 4.8 update

Atlus, Sega, and developer Black Wings Game Studio have deployed the Version 4.8 update for Persona 5: The Phantom X across iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. Live since late August, the update adds a new playable Phantom Idol, a school sports festival event, and quality-of-life changes for daily players.

New Phantom Idol and sports festival event

The centerpiece of the update is the debut of 5-star Phantom Idol Kumi "Blitz" Katayama, homeroom teacher to the protagonist and to Motoha. Katayama is an electric saboteur built around aggressive multi-target debuffs, capable of lowering enemy defenses and inflicting Dizzy while chipping away at Down points, making her useful against tougher bosses.

Alongside Katayama's release, the update introduces the Tour de Force Sports Fest, a limited-time event tied to the start of a new in-game school semester. Players can take on mini-games and side quests to earn rewards throughout the event. Avatar frames and profile card designs marking the new semester go out through the in-game mailbox starting August 31. The update also adds the Musubi Matsukata synergy bond, tied to the ongoing story.

Mailbox and shop changes

Persona 5: The Phantom X Version 4.8 also reworks the mailbox for daily players. Reading a piece of mail now lets players mark or favorite it, protecting rewards from accidental deletion when using the Delete All Claimed option and keeping saved correspondence organized separately from regular mail.

The in-game shop, meanwhile, continues to rotate limited-time packs built around Platinum Tickets, Cognition Crystals, and stamina-recovery items such as the Coffee Aid Pass, which restores Stamina and Action Points for Metaverse exploration.

Persona 5: The Phantom X remains free to play on mobile storefronts and PC via Steam, with its main story currently on Chapter 4: The Masks We Wear, the last advanced in the preceding Persona 5: The Phantom X Version 4.7 update. Further chapters are expected in future patches, timed against a busy live-service calendar. 

When it comes to a direct competitor in the mobile space, HoYoverse's Zenless Zone Zero launches its own Version 3.2 update on September 9, introducing a new Armorer agent specialty alongside S-rank agents Claret and Roxy, giving gacha RPG players another major release to weigh against Katayama's debut.
