Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara gameplay and release date revealed

Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment gave a closer look at Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara during Sony's State of Play Japan broadcast, following up on the expansion's initial reveal via the PlayStation Blog back in August. The new narrative expansion arrives October 1 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, and a new trailer shown at the Japan showcase dug into the story alongside comments from Atsu's Japanese voice actor, Fairouz Ai, on returning to the role for this chapter.

Present-day and flashback story

Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara splits its story between two timelines. In the present, Atsu explores a previously unseen valley in Ezo once controlled by a warlord known as The Snake and his gang, the Vipers. In flashbacks, players relive Atsu's time on the mainland during the actual Battle of Sekigahara, a pivotal moment in her past before she returned home to pursue her quest for vengeance. Along the way, she crosses paths with Nagato, a figure from that chapter of her life who has since arrived in Ezo. Sucker Punch says the expansion adds new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, and dyes, with further specifics still to come.

Most Wanted and launch details

Bundled alongside the story content is Most Wanted, a separate single-player combat survival mode that Sucker Punch describes as its take on a roguelike. Players take on bounties to start new runs, earning perks from defeated enemies and unlocking additional playable characters along the way. The mode's roster includes Atsu, who fights with dual katanas; Oyuki, who wields a kusarigama; and Nagato, who fights with a yari.

Both Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted release October 1 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, priced at $69.99 and also including the base game and the Ghost of Yōtei Legends online co-op mode. Existing owners of Ghost of Yōtei can add both through the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99. All players, including those who skip the upgrade, will receive a free October 1 patch adding a screensaver-style Beauty of Yōtei mode, new Watanabe Mode tracks, an armor transmog option, and a new high-contrast accessibility setting.
