The Missing Tail revealed: Cozy co-op puzzle game requires one copy

The Missing Tail, an upcoming cozy co-op puzzle adventure starring two feline protagonists, has been officially announced with a reveal trailer. The game is in development for PC via Steam and lets two players team up as a royal cat and a stray cat making their way home together across a series of storybook environments. The reveal trailer offers the first proper look at how the pair's journey unfolds and how their contrasting personalities shape the experience.

Dual-cat gameplay and Remote Play support

The Missing Tail is built around the contrasting strengths of its two leads. The stray cat brings grit and agility to traversal, while the royal cat brings finesse to puzzle-solving, each shaped by a very different upbringing before their paths crossed. The pair are designed to be played together rather than interchangeably, with each cat's abilities complementing the others throughout the journey. 

The game supports split-screen local co-op as well as online play through Steam Remote Play Together, and only one player needs to own a copy for both to play. This follows a player-friendly model similar to titles like It Takes Two, lowering the barrier for friends who want to jump in together without both needing to purchase the game. The host launches the game from their own Steam library and invites a friend to join through Remote Play Together.

Co-op puzzles and storybook exploration

Set across medieval villages, bustling markets, and fortresses at night, The Missing Tail features environmental puzzles that call for coordination between both players rather than solo problem-solving. Gameplay includes pushing heavy objects together, working through multi-lock mechanisms, sneaking past danger during night missions, and bouncing across rooftops as the pair make their way through each area. Players can also interact with villagers along the way and take on animal-led side quests, adding smaller moments of discovery to the wider journey home.

The Missing Tail does not yet have a release date. It remains in development for PC via Steam, with playtest sign-ups currently open through the game's official landing page for players who want early access ahead of launch.
