Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion adds the Skybound Eyrie, new Elder Dragon Gundoraja, and the Boost Bracer. Launches 2027 on PS5, Xbox, and PC.

Sony's September 2026 State of Play carried a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Capcom's upcoming expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds. The expansion itself isn't new news; Capcom announced it back at Summer Game Fest in June.

What's new is the extra footage and detail. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance arrives in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, bringing Master Rank content, high-altitude biomes, expanded weapon mechanics, and fresh story chapters. Before jumping in, hunters need the base game, Hunter Rank 40, and a completed run of the 7-star assignment "Awaking From a Dream."

Skybound Eyrie and new Elder Dragon threats

The story picks up years after the base campaign ends. Lao-Shan Lung, an enormous Elder Dragon, shows up without warning in the Forbidden Lands and levels the place, forcing the Expedition Team to throw up a new base called Madoi Stronghold. Once the fog over Wyveria clears, it exposes the Skybound Eyrie, a stretch of floating islands packed with old ruins and creatures nobody's cataloged yet. Nata is all grown up now and hunting properly alongside Bangard, his Wudwud partner, and they lead the charge into the clouds to figure out what's causing all the trouble up there.

Turns out the trouble has a name. Gundoraja, a brand-new Elder Dragon, can twist storms into weapons, and it's the headline threat of the expansion. Araketa joins the monster list too: a pack hunter that rides the air currents off its own wings for quick aerial strikes and group ambushes. Two old faces are back as well, Kushala Daora with its wind control and Lao-Shan Lung pulling siege duty again.

The Boost Bracer and enhanced hunting mechanics

New threats mean new gear, and Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance answers with the Boost Bracer. It straps onto the hunter's arm, taps into the Slinger for extra abilities, and when triggered, gives every one of the 14 weapon types a temporary power spike. Pair that with the Boost Driver ability, and hunters get access to new attacks, longer combos, and better mobility right in the middle of a fight.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is due out worldwide in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Wishlists are already open on official storefronts.
