Square Enix confirmed Final Fantasy VII: Revelation launches April 8, 2027, with a pilotable Highwind, FITS job-based combat system, and playable Cid and Vincent.

Square Enix has set April 8, 2027, as the release date for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the closing chapter of its remake trilogy. The game lands the same day on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with no staggered rollout this time.

Highwind exploration and the playable roster

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation picks up where Rebirth left off, with Cloud and company pushing toward their final reckoning with Sephiroth. The Highwind airship is now something players fly themselves, freely, across the open world map, a callback Square Enix has tied directly to the original 1997 game's PS1-era overworld. From the cockpit, the party can drop straight down onto the map below in a parachute descent, the studio's own footage compared to Fortnite.

Once grounded, a new grappling gun handles vertical traversal through cities and rooftops. At the same time, the chocobo companion Piko goes well beyond a basic mount, sprinting, gliding, and even flying, and pitching in during fights as the party's abilities grow. The full roster now includes eight playable characters, with Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine joining alongside returning cast like Barret, Yuffie, and Red XIII. Combos carry over between them, including a Vincent-and-Red-XIII team attack built around his Galian Beast transformation.

FITS combat, Queen's Blood, and post-launch DLC

Combat now runs on FITS, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, which lets any party member re-equip into a job-based outfit that changes their moveset and appearance on the fly. Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner are confirmed so far. Queen's Blood also returns, this time built around a new campaign centered on Red XIII.

Pre-orders are open now. The Premium Edition pairs the base game with 24 hours of early access and the Story Expansion Pass, which unlocks two post-launch DLC chapters: one built around Sephiroth, the other titled "Vincent & the Turks." Square Enix has penciled in a release window for both between winter 2027 and spring 2028, without committing to firmer dates yet.
