Xbox Game Pass: Select users are reportedly offered lower prices

Recent reports from the community suggest that Microsoft is offering some Game Pass users better deals than others. On Reddit, one US user reports being offered an annual Game Pass Ultimate subscription at $16.09 per month. Over the course of a year, the user would save around $83. After that, the regular price of $22.99 per month is expected to apply again.

Particularly interesting: In the comments, several users report similar experiences. Reddit user u/Much_Comfortable_378 says they were offered a price of around $18 per month for twelve months, while u/modemman11 received an offer of $20. Other users, however, say they are only being shown the regular price of $22.99.

According to the original poster, they had used Game Pass on and off for nearly two years. Their most recent subscription had expired around a month before the reduced price appeared. This suggests that Microsoft may currently be testing targeted win-back offers for former or occasional subscribers. It is conceivable that users who frequently subscribe for just a month at a time and then cancel could be encouraged to stay with Game Pass longer by offering them a lower price. However, this has not been officially confirmed.

Some users on Reddit also believe Microsoft could be experimenting with dynamic or personalized pricing. The company could, for example, use past subscriber behavior to determine the discount offered to each account. However, this is also purely speculation at this point. Canceling a subscription certainly does not appear to guarantee a lower price. In the comments, several former subscribers report that they have not received any such offer at all. What criteria Microsoft uses to determine who receives these discounts and whether they are available outside the US remains unclear.
