Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake price leaks before Nintendo Direct may set release date

The September 8th Nintendo Direct features a much-anticipated Zelda project. Before the broadcast starts, the Australian Nintendo Store (now in maintenance) has revealed the Ocarina of Time remake price. The leak suggests pre-orders will begin during or after the event, along with a release date announcement.

Vooks spotted the new information on the gaming giant’s official Australian storefront. The eShop hasn't been updated yet, but the available pricing matches many projections. For the digital Switch 2 game, domestic buyers should set aside $94.95 AUD. Judging by typical regional differences, that converts to $59.99.

Unfortunately, the cost of the physical version is less certain. Vooks speculates that the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake cartridge pre-orders will demand $109.95 AUD. With the first-party Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Pokémon Pokopia, retailers generally ask $10 more for boxed copies. Consequently, $70 would be realistic for the modernized Zelda game.

Will Nintendo satisfy collectors?

The storefront lists only one digital SKU, hinting at no alternative with bonus content. However, there have been rumors of a physical Collector’s Edition with tangible trinkets. Also, ahead of the release date, the leaked Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console and Pro Controller still lurk.

Some Nintendo fans may find the Ocarina of Time remake price less appealing if it’s a 1:1 recreation. The 1998 N64 title already relaunched on the 3DS in 2011. It then joined the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in 2024. On the other hand, if developers capture the spirit of the original while adding new areas to explore, it may convince skeptics.

Other observers' initial reaction is that, for $60/70, the Switch 2 game will stay mostly true to the classic. Regardless, even the Star Fox remake, which cost $10 less, introduced voiceovers, cinematics, and a new mode. The Nintendo Direct should hopefully answer any lingering questions about the Ocarina of Time remake.
