Nintendo shares the first teaser for live-action Legend of Zelda movie
During their 40th Anniversary Direct, celebrating four decades of the Zelda franchise, Nintendo finally addressed the long-gestating live-action Legend of Zelda movie. The reveal, though, landed somewhere between anticlimactic and mildly informative for fans who'd spent the past week bracing for a first trailer.
The film's official title is “The Legend of Zelda”. No subtitle, despite the games routinely carrying one (Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, and so on). Shigeru Miyamoto explained the choice, saying the movie tells an original story that pulls from ideas across the franchise's 40-year history rather than adapting one specific game, and that fans would understand the choice.
No full trailer in play for now
Outlets across the gaming press speculated in the run-up to the Direct that a full trailer would premiere during the broadcast. That didn't happen. The Direct's real centerpiece was the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2, which got a full gameplay walkthrough and a November 5 release date. Multiple outlets covering the livestream noted the segment was limited to the new title card and a reconfirmation of the April 30, 2027 release date, along with a note that future updates will run through the Nintendo Today app first.
Fans on Reddit were not thrilled with the lack of a proper trailer, with some commenting on a post sharing the news: “I was sure they would have something for the movie by now.” For now, fans will have to adjust their expectations for a proper trailer closer to release and hope the movie can live up to the game’s legacy.
