Deal | Unusual deckbuilder (91% positive) drops below $2 on Steam for the first time

Tuggowar is a deckbuilder with a rather interesting concept: There are no traditional health points. Instead, both players build up attack power with their units to gradually push the front line toward their opponent. Whoever eventually controls all territories wins the match.

The deckbuilding is also rather unusual. Players do not bring a finished deck into a match – instead, they build it as the game progresses. New cards are purchased from a rotating shop and can provide resources, spawn units, enable the construction of buildings or disrupt the opponent's strategy. However, simply buying cards at random can quickly become a problem: An oversized deck dilutes powerful combinations and makes it harder to draw the cards you need at the right moment.

Territory control adds another layer of tactical depth. Buildings can be constructed on captured tiles, unlocking new cards or other advantages. However, if the territory is later lost, the opponent may also be able to benefit from them.

The focus is clearly on 1v1 PvP. Players can compete in ranked and casual matches, face friends or play in Mirror Shop mode with identical card offerings. Those who prefer to play solo can take on AI opponents at several difficulty levels, challenges and individual campaign missions.

Steam players praise Tuggowar primarily for its considerable strategic depth, short matches and “easy to learn, hard to master” approach. According to the reviews, the combination of on-the-fly deckbuilding, territory control and counterplay ensures that matches play out differently time and again. The relatively limited amount of solo content, minor UI issues and use of AI-generated artwork have been less well received. The randomly generated shops can also make some matches feel somewhat unbalanced. Overall, however, the game is still very well received: 91% of its 105 user reviews are positive.

Tuggowar normally costs just under $8 on Steam. However, a 75% discount brings the price down to $1.99 until September 22. According to SteamDB, previous discounts topped out at 65%. The current deal therefore not only marks a new all-time low, but also brings the deckbuilder below the $2 mark for the first time. On the Steam Deck, Tuggowar is rated as “Verified” and should therefore run without issues.
