Alienware AW3926QW 39-inch OLED monitor launches globally with RGB stripe tandem OLED tech

Following its earlier launch in Asia, the Alienware AW3926QW is now available in North America and Europe. The monitor is Dell's take on the new 39-inch tandem OLED panel from LG Display and competes directly with the LG UltraGear 39GX950B-B (curr: $1,591.81 at Amazon). However, the Alienware model features an RGB stripe subpixel layout, which should deliver better text clarity with less color fringing.

The price may be an even bigger draw. The LG UltraGear 39GX950B-B retails for $1,799.99 in the US before discounts, while Dell has priced the AW3926QW at $1,099.99. The Alienware monitor is also available to order in the UK for £999 and €1,149 across much of Europe, including Germany and France.

A glossy OLED with sharper text and no color fringing

The Alienware AW3926QW stretches a 5120 x 2160 resolution across its 39-inch display. It has a native refresh rate of 165 Hz, but dropping the resolution to 2560 x 1080 doubles that to 330 Hz for shooters and other competitive games. The monitor covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space.

The key difference from the LG model lies in the subpixel layout. While both monitors use 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology, the Alienware has an RGB stripe layout instead of the LG's RGWB arrangement. This should improve text clarity in Windows and reduce the color fringing found on some older OLED monitors. Its glossy finish should give colors more punch as well, although it will be more prone to reflections.

Removing the white subpixel comes with a brightness trade-off. Dell rates the AW3926QW at 300 nits of full-screen brightness and up to 1,300 nits in HDR. In comparison, the LG UltraGear 39GX950B-B reaches 335 nits in SDR and peaks at 1,500 nits in HDR.

The Dell Alienware AW3926QW is now widely available across North America, Europe, and Asia through Dell's website. It costs $1,099.99 in the US, £999 in the UK, and €1,149 in Europe.
