MSI's new tandem OLED monitor with impressive colors and Mac compatibility hits shelves

MSI has unveiled a new ultrawide monitor aimed squarely at dwellers of the Apple ecosystem. Dubbed the PRO MAX, the new monitor features decent specs and plenty of Mac-specific features.
To be honest, the monitor's panel itself, while impressive, is nothing extraordinary. It features a 34-inch QD-OLED panel with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 (WQHD), and a peak refresh of 144 Hz. This allows for a pixel density of around just under 110 PPI, which is far from the Retina displays that most Mac customers are used to.
That said, Mac customers will be able to adjust the monitor's brightness and volume settings right from their systems, without having to fiddle around with the monitor's physical settings.

Those worried about text clarity, however, can rest easy, given that the panel features RGB stripe sub-pixel layout, which should remove the fringing issues that plagued earlier generation QD-OLED panels with triangular sub-pixel layouts. Moreover, the panel's penta-OLED technology should help with brightness and longevity as well.
MSI claims an impressive 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and 97.4% of the Adobe RGB color gamut. The brand also promises ΔE<2 out of the box, without requiring any calibration. That said, folks who take colors seriously should always calibrate their monitors no matter what.
As for brightness, MSI states an impressive HDR peak brightness of 1,300 nits in small areas, and a peak full-screen SDR brightness of 300 nits, which should be good enough for use in environments with controlled lighting.
The I/O on offer is quite generous, detailed below:
- Dual HDMI 2.1
- DisplayPort 1.4a
- Dual USB Type-C (both with DP alt mode; 98W and 15W PD)
- Single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-B
- Four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
- Audio out (3.5mm)
The monitor appears to only be available in a single white colorway. Other notable details include dual 3W speakers, VESA mounting support, 3-device KVM, built-in blue light reduction, 130 mm of height adjustment, as well as 30° swivel, 10° pivot, and -5/20° tilt.
The MSI PRO MAX 341QPXW14G monitor is already on sale in the US, priced at just under $750.
