Philips intros new 5K2K 120 Hz monitor with four USB-C ports and affordable price tag

It can be argued that 5120 x 2160, known as 5K2K, is the perfect resolution for modern-day ultrawide monitors. The dense revolution allows for impressive tex clarity and overall sharpness, which can be crucial for many productivity workflows, especially those that deal with lots of text and smaller elements.

Philips has seemingly taken note of this markets segment, and has introduced the 34B2U5900C monitor. Alphanumeric-salad naming aside, the 34B2U5900C monitor feature a 34-inch VA curved panel with a resolution of 5120 vs 2160 (5K2K), and a peak refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Folks who also also like to game, will be happy to know that the monitor features dual-mode functionality, allowing it to drop its resolution to just 2560 x 1080 at a refresh rate of 240 Hz. While the low resolution will adversely affect visual fidelity, it should be less of a concern in gaming, especially those that are fast-paced and can take advantage of 240 Hz.

Philips claims 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut, as well 122% coverage of the standard sRGB color gamut. The brand also claims ΔEs of less than 1 in sRGB mode, which is definitely quite impressive, but can only be verified once the monitor reaches independent reviewers. A peak brightness of 350 nits has been stated.

The VA panel also sports a contrast ratio of 3000:1, which is unsurprisingly a lot higher than most IPSs of the world. That said, IPS panels will likely have an upper hand in viewing angles.
