Philips Hue launches new Play Screen Sync, Play HDMI sync box 4K, and Play gradient TV strip lights

Philips Hue (Signify) is expanding its smart lights portfolio with a few new options, two of which bring the colors of your TV content to the real world. The Play Screen Sync is a new product for the company and competes with the likes of the Govee TV Backlight. The Play HDMI sync box 4K, on the other hand, is a more affordable alternative to an existing Hue family device.
Philips Hue Play Screen Sync features
It is a plug-and-play solution that uses a fisheye lens and automatic calibration to monitor the colors being displayed on the TV and relay them to compatible Philips Hue lights. This type of smart light setup does not require an HDMI connection as it uses a camera to detect the colors. This means the lighting is not dependent on the source of the content.
Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K
The Philips Hue ecosystem currently includes the Play HDMI sync box 8K, which, as the name suggests, supports TVs with up to 8K resolution. Because of this, it’s quite expensive at $385 (currently $310 on Amazon). With the Play HDMI sync box 4K, Philips aims to offer a more affordable option that still works with the majority of TVs. It supports up to 4K resolution, has a single HDMI port, and a slim design.
Philips Hue will also launch a newer version of the Play gradient TV strip light, along with a Pro version. These will be cuttable and will support TVs up to 100 inches. The company states that one Play gradient TV strip light can be paired with the Play Screen Sync or the Play HDMI sync box 4K via Bluetooth, but for adding more lights, a Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro will be required.
Philips Hue Play Screen Sync, Play HDMI sync box 4K price and availability
Both the Hue Play Screen Sync and Play HDMI sync box 4K are available starting today, September 3. The Hue Play Screen Sync is priced at $120, and the Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K is priced at $150. The Philips Hue Play strip light pro will be available from September 15 starting at $180, while the non-pro will be available from October 6 starting at $150.
