Since Philips Hue lights can already be controlled via the voice control feature on Sonos speakers, Signify is now set to offer even deeper Sonos integration. This is because music playback will soon be controllable via the Philips Hue Bridge as well as via Hue remote controls.

According to the latest information from HueBlog, which comes from a now-removed Signify support webpage, the Philips Hue system will soon be expanded to include a feature called "Sonos Accessory Control." This feature is primarily intended to allow users to control Sonos speakers using Philips Hue remote controls, such as the Hue Smart Button ($32.99 on Amazon).

This feature is expected to be supported by all Philips Hue remote controls and will allow users to control music playback, skip to the previous or next song, start a preselected song or radio station, or adjust the volume. The major advantage of the integration with Philips Hue is that these actions can also be incorporated into existing scenes and automations. For example, it’s possible to light the living room in a color of your choice while simultaneously playing songs by your favorite artist simply by pressing a single button on a compatible remote control.

Communication between Philips Hue and Sonos takes place via the Philips Hue Bridge, that is, locally rather than over the internet. This not only eliminates a potential source of error, but local processing should also speed up response times. To set it up, you simply need to link your Sonos account in the Philips Hue app. It is not yet known whether this feature requires the more expensive Philips Hue Bridge Pro, and details regarding the launch date of Sonos Accessory Control are also still pending.
