Leak: New Philips Hue module makes old light switches smart, without a battery

The Philips Hue wall switch module has made it possible for years to transform a conventional light switch into a smart switch for the Philips Hue system. On the one hand, scenes can be set when the switch is pressed several times in succession, but on the other hand, the switch does not cut the power supply to lamps so that they still respond to motion detectors or the Philips Hue app when they are switched off with the switch.
Until now, this module has been wireless and has therefore relied on a battery that has to be replaced every five years. However, this is likely to change very soon, as Hueblog has discovered, the official Philips Hue YouTube channel already lists videos showing a so-called "Wired Wall Switch Module", which is not yet available. These videos were uploaded three months ago, but are marked as "private" and therefore only accessible via a direct link, which is why the videos were not previously discovered.
This new wall switch module is connected to the power cables to which the light switch is otherwise connected, so that it is supplied with power directly via the domestic power grid, making batteries superfluous. Another new feature is the so-called Hue Wired Dimmer Switch, which makes it possible to control and even dim a ceiling lamp that is not actually smart via the Philips Hue app, provided the light source allows dimming. It is not yet known when or at what price these new modules will be launched on the market.
