Sony ULT Tower Max packs 2,150 watts of sound into 1-meter speaker
With the ULT Tower Max, Sony announced the largest speaker in the ULT series to date. Measuring 106 x 53.4 x 47.2 centimeters and weighing 56.3 kilograms, it is not particularly portable. Thanks to built-in wheels and handles, however, the speaker is designed to be transportable by a single person.
Those willing to put up with the heavy weight will be rewarded above all with extremely powerful sound. That’s because Sony has equipped it with three 280-millimeter woofers, two 120-millimeter midrange drivers, and four tweeters ranging in diameter from 25 to 40 millimeters. It also features amplifiers with an output of 2,150 watts. Since some drivers face forward and others face backward, the speaker is designed to deliver 360-degree sound. The sound field automatically adapts to the surroundings, thanks to built-in microphones, the ULT Tower Max detects when it is positioned near a wall.
Two speakers can be paired via Bluetooth to form a stereo pair. The sound can be customized using a 10-band equalizer in the accompanying Sony Sound Connect app. An RGB LED ring around the front gives it the perfect party look. The speaker is splash-proof and is designed to withstand spilled drinks. Music can be streamed wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3, with support for AAC, SBC, and Sony LDAC. Alternatively, RCA and XLR inputs are also available.
Pricing and availability
The Sony ULT Tower Max will be released on September 17th for a suggested retail price of $1,499. Amazon is already accepting pre-orders.
