Sonos Ace Ultra launches with better sound and Wi-Fi at lower price
The Sonos Ace ($299 on Amazon) just got a successor that’s said to offer better sound at a lower launch price. The design remains largely unchanged, but the headphones are slightly heavier, weighing 322 grams. In return, the battery life increases from 30 to 35 hours with ANC enabled, while noise cancellation is expected to be more effective thanks to ten microphones instead of eight.
The battery is now replaceable, at least with a special replacement kit from Sonos. The so-called Headphone Engine 2 is designed to enable a more stable connection to Sonos speakers. Playback can be streamed from a speaker to the Sonos Ace Ultra at the touch of a button, allowing, for example, the sound from a TV to be streamed wirelessly to the headphones. The Sonos app lets you listen to music from over 100 streaming services.
While streaming at home via Wi-Fi, the Sonos Ace Ultra also offers a 3.5 mm headphone jack as well as Bluetooth 6.0, including SBC, AAC, and Qualcomm aptX. Sonos highlights an advanced 8-band equalizer, support for lossless audio, and 3D audio. The dynamic 40-millimeter drivers were redesigned for the new model to deliver better sound. A multifunction button for controlling volume and music playback, along with wear detection, complete the features.
Pricing and availability
The Sonos Ace Ultra over-ear headphones are now available for pre-order for $449 in the Sonos online store, with shipping expected to begin on September 29. The headphones are available in white, blue, beige, and black. This makes the list price of the Sonos Ace Ultra $50 lower than the launch price of the older Sonos Ace, which is now available for $399.
