Timex teams up with Fender for new guitar-inspired watch collection

Timex has teamed up with the legendary Fender for a new three-watch collection celebrating the guitar maker’s 80th anniversary, shortly after it resurrected one of its more unconventional designs with the 1976 Rotary Phone Dial Reissue. The range includes two 37 mm quartz models and a 41 mm automatic watch inspired by the iconic Fender Telecaster.

The Fender x Timex Automatic TW6A14600 serves as the collection’s flagship model. It uses a 41 mm stainless-steel case and a mechanical automatic movement, paired with a dial designed to resemble the butterscotch-blonde finish associated with classic Telecaster guitars. Timex has also fitted a seconds hand shaped like a Telecaster headstock (no frets, sadly), while the crown and other details continue the guitar-inspired theme. The watch also gets a sapphire crystal, an exhibition caseback and a unidirectional bezel. Water resistance is rated at 200 metres. 

Next up, the Fender x Timex Automatic, TW6A14700 uses a smaller 37 mm case. It swaps the automatic movement for quartz and features a mother-of-pearl dial inspired by the pearloid pickguards found on some Stratocaster guitars. The seconds hand is shaped like a Stratocaster headstock, while the crown is styled after a guitar tone knob. A domed acrylic crystal, brown leather strap and 50 m water resistance round out the specifications. 

Timex is also selling a 37 mm Fender x Timex TWG068900 gift set. This model returns to a Telecaster-inspired design, with an ice-blue dial embossed with a white guitar motif. It ships with both a leather strap and an additional fabric strap influenced by Fender guitar straps. Like the other 37 mm model, it uses a quartz movement and offers 50 m water resistance.

All three Fender x Timex models are now listed on Timex’s US website as new anniversary editions and come with a free custom guitar pick with every purchase. The TW6A14600 is priced at $499, the TW6A14700 at $269, and the TWG068900 gift set at $299. Currently, there's no word on whether the watches are limited-edition or if they will be available for general purchase.
