Leak: Apple iPhone 18 Pro (Max) said to get four camera upgrades and be surprisingly cheap

Apple’s likely biggest launch event of the year begins in just a few hours. MacRumors has now obtained specific details about the new features of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max from an AI chat support bot operated by the U.S. carrier Verizon. As usual, such leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is unclear whether this chatbot has access to the actual spec sheet or is merely relying on rumors.

If the chatbot’s information is correct, the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) will feature a main camera with a variable aperture. While this was already expected, what’s new is the information that the aperture can be adjusted from f/1.4 to f/4.0, making the camera about half a f-stop faster than the camera of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro ($1,199 on Amazon). The main camera is also said to feature a larger sensor and improved, sensor-based image stabilization, which will allow for significantly better photos and videos, especially in low-light conditions.

The 48 MP telephoto camera is said to enable up to 10x "optical" zoom. However, Apple’s "lossless" 2x digital zoom is likely already factored into this, meaning the zoom would actually increase from 4x to 5x. At least the top-of-the-line model is expected to come with 16 GB of RAM instead of 12 GB. According to the chatbot, the iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB of storage will be offered for $1,099, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max will start at $1,199, meaning the list prices would actually remain unchanged compared to the iPhone 17 Pro (Max).
