Apple iPhone 18 Pro (Max) suffers from cosmetic defect, according to user reports

The Apple iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max have only been shipping for a few weeks, yet user reports are already piling up on Reddit claiming that the smartphone's color can change over time. Although this issue affects all variants of the flagship smartphone, it is particularly noticeable on the "Burgundy" version.
Curiously, the discoloration does not affect the entire back, but only the area around the three rear cameras. Affected users emphasize that this is not dirt, grease or damage, and that thoroughly cleaning the smartphone does not remove the discoloration. While the exact cause is not yet known, one user speculates that the color around the cameras changes because they can get warm during use. The large number of user reports suggests that this issue is relatively widespread.
Apple has not yet commented on this discoloration, so it remains unclear whether it is a defect that Apple will fix or whether customers will have to live with it. Such issues are not new for Apple, as some orange iPhone 17 Pro units also suffered from severe discoloration. Last year, Apple replaced affected iPhones free of charge, but this issue was not as widespread on the iPhone 17 Pro ($1,160 on Amazon) as it apparently is on the iPhone 18 Pro.
