Two iPhones, one number: Apple makes using multiple iPhones seamless

Smartphones such as the Apple iPhone Air ($809 on Amazon) already support dual-SIM, making it possible to use two phone numbers simultaneously on a single iPhone. After updating to iOS 27, however, it is possible to use one SIM card and one number with two iPhones. @itspdfu has now been able to uncover more detailed information about this feature, which Apple calls "Handoff."

According to this information, the respective carrier must explicitly support this feature, as is the case, for example, with T-Mobile in the U.S. Using it couldn’t be easier – once Handoff is enabled, the phone number is active on the iPhone that was last unlocked. For example, if you want to switch from the ultra-thin iPhone Air to a foldable iPhone Ultra, you simply need to unlock the iPhone Ultra. To use Handoff, the feature must first be enabled on both iPhones in System Settings under "Cellular," as shown in the video embedded below. 

The SIM card or eSIM remains installed in the same iPhone at all times. However, only the device on which the number is currently active can access the internet and make calls. This feature should also be available on older iPhones following the release of iOS 27 this fall. The timing is likely no coincidence, as Apple is expected to unveil its largest smartphone to date, the iPhone Ultra, on Wednesday. With Handoff, users will have the option to temporarily swap it out for a more compact model at any time.
