Chuwi launches new mini-PC globally with OCuLink, 10 GbE Ethernet and 192 GB RAM
Last week, Minisforum unveiled its first mini-PC to feature AMD's Gorgon Halo platform. As we discussed at the time, the MS-S1 Max P495 is set to launch with the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 and 192 GB of RAM. Not to be outdone, Chuwi has presented an alternative under a new UniBox line.
Previously, Chuwi sold mini-PCs and compact desktops under its LarkBox and CoreBox series. Also, the company sells the UniBook laptop with Intel Wildcat Lake processors, which we reviewed in August. By contrast, the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 provides the UniBox AI495 Pro with 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 32 CPU threads and a Radeon 8065S iGPU.
For reference, the APU's CPU cores and iGPU run at higher frequencies than equivalents inside the Ryzen AI Max+ 395. However, it remains to be seen how this will affect performance compared to Strix Halo-backed mini-PCs like the GMKtec EVO-X2 we reviewed last year (curr. $2,199 on Amazon).
Additionally, Chuwi will sell the UniBox AI495 Pro with up to 192 GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 8,533 MT/s to match the Minisforum MS-S1 Max P495. Moreover, the images that Chuwi has revealed so far confirm that the UniBox AI495 Pro contains front-facing USB Type-A and Type-C (USB4) ports, as well as a 3.5 mm jack and a full-sized SD card reader.
On top of that, the UniBox AI495 Pro includes OCuLink, three M.2 2280 slots and dual 10 GbE Ethernet. Reportedly, Chuwi has included this hardware in a 2.9-litre and 209.6 x 209.6 x 67 mm housing with a 240 W power envelope. Pricing and availability are unclear for now, although we would expect to see a higher starting price for Chuwi's 192 GB RAM SKUs.
